I want you to take a look at the pictures below.  What can you tell me about them (besides the fact that the child is adorable in both)?

Well, he's wearing the same shirt in both, which means not much time has elapsed between photos, right?  But look how much longer his hair is.  Hmmm.  Want to guess his ages in the two photos?

11 months and 2 1/2.

In that time period, he gained about 2 ounces, and less than a 1/4 of an inch in height.  Yup, for 19 months, he was frozen, like a mosquito in amber.  He learned to walk, but his motor/verbal/cognitive skills didn't really improve much either.  Even though we had a 2 1/2 year old, we really had a 1 year old child .  And no one could tell us why.

He continued to plummet off the charts, falling from the 80th percentile into the 3rd, when one endocrinologist decided to try supplementing his thyroid.  Hey, it was worth a shot, right?

And he started to grow.  Not enough where he's catching up, but he's no longer losing ground, and he's keeping the devil's grasp on that 3rd percentile.  :)  Now, all we have to do is work on the delays.

Which is a whole different set of obstacles.
